Interim Vice President for Legal Affairs and Interim General Counsel
Lynne Wood has been part of The University of Arizona community, serving as legal adviser and University Attorney, since 1979. She began serving as Deputy General Counsel in 2005. Her work is focused on employment and labor law, including defense of employment discrimination and affirmative action-related complaints, and providing advice to administrators on fair employment practices. She assists in policy and procedural process drafting and provides the administration legal opinions and interpretation of laws and University and Regents' rules and their interrelationships. Prior to joining The University of Arizona, Ms. Wood served the U.S. Navy on active duty as a Legal Assistance Officer and member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and San Diego, California. She also served for 20 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve's Judge Advocate General's Corps, retiring as a Commander in 1996.
She is a member of the Arizona State Bar, Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of Arizona, California State Bar, Pima County Bar Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and Arizona Women Lawyers Association. Ms. Wood has served as a member of the Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments and as a judge on the Arizona Court of Military Appeals. In 2002, she received the Billy Joe Varney Award for Excellence for her service to the University and the Tucson community. Ms. Wood studied law at The University of Arizona College of Law (J.D., 1974), and received her B.A. with distinction in History in 1971 from The University of Arizona.
